Merry Christmas,my friend! Mike and I have never been so entertained as by Spazz. After putting Nikki down a couple months ago, it has been the cat that has lifted the grief, just a little. He probably enjoys the extra attention, as well. Give Ian our greetings as well.

Cindy! Merry Christmas and Happy New Year. Thanks for writing and I know well that you understand the joys and strangenesses of a cat. I'll see you in a few weeks - we'll be back in Southern Maryland for a day or two. XO Annie

I love "Lessons from the Cat." In my own life I receive lessons from two Welsh Terriers. They love life and really love it when they see me again after I've been gone, even if I've been gone for five minutes. I like the way you wove the cat's behavior into your writing or lack of writing. This is a great New Year's motto: "the joy of sitting in the largesse of emptiness, in anticipation of an arrival."

HOW FINE HOW TRUE HOW SWEET HOW YOU

Anne Caston

Vivian, I almost envy you those lessons from the Welsh! (Terriers, I mean.) It becomes, at times, difficult to keep sending the work out and it coming back in a tidy envelope with that brief rejection slip inside it, written in neat, tiny Unabomber handwriting. Sigh. But when the writing is happening, it is bliss. Now I am learning (again!) to divorce myself from the publishing and ambition and to sit in that emptiness waiting for the real goods to arrive.

May your New Year bring you continued success and joy. All best to you and Howie,

XO Anne

Grace, you know me best, I think - sometimes better than I know myself. Fortunately, the cats also accept my foibles and ignorances. Lucky, lucky me to have ALL of you in my life.

Happy New Year to you and Ken!

xo Anne
